I purchased an old RCA radio for an unbelievable price. It was complete, but not in the greatest shape. I didn’t try plugging it in, because the capacitors in old circuits like this can become dried out and result in spectacular short circuits.
After pondering what to do with it after a while, I decided against a full rebuild because frankly I don’t have any use for an AM radio. Instead, I decided to restore toe case, but replace the electronics with a small computer which would be able to play my media collection or web streams.
The first step was to refinish the cabinet, which was not in the greatest of shape. I decided to go with a finish similar to the original, although with a slightly more pronounced two tone finish.
This is a work in progress.
