Frequently Asked Questions
Q: One of my packages is “Unavailable”.
A: Either you entered the tracking number wrong, or COMP Widget is not able to track this type of package. It is also possible that your shipper has not yet posted tracking information for your package to the web yet. This can take up to 24 hours after you recieve your tracking number for Fedex and UPS. USPS is especially lazy about posting tracking numbers, and may take almost a week to do so (by which time your package has arrived).
Q: All of my packages are “Unavailable”.
A: COMP Widget relies on packagetrackr.com for tracking packages. If packagetrackr.com is down for maintenance, then the widget will display all packages as “Unavailable”. Luckily, COMP Widget has the capability to switch to an alterative package tracking source. Right click on the widget, and select “Preferences…”. In the preferences window, for “Tracker Method”, select one of the alternative services.
Q: I want to update my packages more often than every 15 minutes.
A: See this. I do not want to put undue load on other people’s website by scraping them for tracking data too often.
Q: Why does the widget pop up to tell me there is a new version?
A: Because there is a new version available. You can turn off the update check if you don’t like the occasional message. I implimented this feature because 90% of the support requests I get could be solved by downloading the latest version of the widget.
Q: My question is not answered here!
A: I welcome e-mail questions, and I do my best to make sure everyone who e-mails me gets their issue fixed. My address is on the About Me page.
Q: I love this widget, and want to find a way to say thank you!
A: Well, I always appreciate a thank you e-mail. My address is located on the “About” screen of the widget. If you want to take it a step further, I welcome donations. Right clicking on the widget and selecting “Donate” will take you to a secure Paypal website allowing you to make a donation. The widget is freeware and does not require a donation for use, but any money I do raise goes towards caffeine, which allows me to make more widgets.
